Anjali Jaipuria, the Founder of Jaipuria School, carries a lifelong passion for Sanskrit and a love for rebuilding India. Her dream — that one day Sanskrit must go through a period of renaissance in India — began at Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, in April 2003.
She is an educationist with a vision for fundamental change in the Indian educational system — a pioneer of consciousness-based education, integrating Indian knowledge systems with modern pedagogy, combining her love for Vedic wisdom with the economic, social and political needs of today.
An alumna of Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi (Economics), she studies Sri Aurobindo and The Mother's evolutionary work, Integral Yoga and educational reform, the Vedas, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. With the help of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, she created Devabhasha — a conversational Sanskrit curriculum introduced in 2003 as the third language, from pre-primary to Grade 8.

"The Sanskrit sound, its rhythm, would mesmerise me."
"When I was young, I used to hear my unlettered grandmother — dadima — learning meticulously the correct pronunciation of beautiful stutis and stotras. The Sanskrit sound, its rhythm, would mesmerise me.
As I grew older, I followed in her footsteps and I too memorised stotras — VishnuSahasranam, Shiv Mahimna — and felt as if their melody was in harmony with the universal symphony of the planets, with the rotation of the earth, the twinkling of the stars, the rising of waves.
Though I could learn the recitation, I could not, for the dear life of me, learn the Sanskrit language itself. Every time I turned to the Bhagavad Gita, I had to depend on a translation — and every translation, however good, is subjective.
I took a vow that no student of mine would ever feel so helpless when they turn to the Epics, Vedas, Upanishads and the Gita for answers. This led me to a dream — that one day, Sanskrit must go through a period of renaissance in India."

Our aims
A three-pronged approach
Studying the pedagogy of Sanskrit in Indian schools, two lacunae stood out — teaching begins too late, and the curriculum is crowded with grammar. Devabhasha began with three clear aims.

Cultivating love for Sanskrit
Inculcate a love for the language — a curiosity that leads children to the rich literature hidden in its folds.

Reviving Indian heritage
Repackage Indian culture and heritage so that children develop a lasting respect for their motherland.

Transforming young minds
Bring about a positive transformation in the character and values of our students.
Inspired by these aims, a tentative curriculum was drawn up. The experiment of teaching Sanskrit from LKG at Jaipuria School began in 2003 — and as it progressed, so did the teaching–learning materials. Our textbooks from Playgroup and Kindergarten to Class VIII are the product of this labour of love and dedication.

Founded in 2010 by Mrs. Jaipuria — an English-medium school for children on the margins of poverty, imparting the same education as Seth M. R. Jaipuria School to 340 students today. Navsrijan students consistently win inter-school competitions across Lucknow.
