Event 01
Shloka Recitation
Individual and group recitation from the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and select Puranic verses. Judged on pronunciation, meaning and expression.
Inter-school competition
Hosted annually by Seth M. R. Jaipuria School, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow, the Bhavani Bharti Inter-School Sanskrit Competition brings together students from across India for recitation, oratory, drama and quiz — all in Sanskrit.
The programme
Event 01
Individual and group recitation from the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and select Puranic verses. Judged on pronunciation, meaning and expression.
Event 02
Prepared speeches (2–3 minutes) on a set theme. Delivered entirely in Sanskrit; a translated abstract is submitted with the entry.
Event 03
Short dramatic pieces — Puranic episodes, Panchatantra retellings or original scripts — performed by school teams of up to eight students.
Event 04
A rapid-round quiz on grammar, mythology and literature drawn from the Devabhasha syllabus and Sri Aurobindo's writings on Sanskrit.
Rules & participation
Open to schools that teach Sanskrit in any form (Devabhasha curriculum not required).
Each school may enter up to two contestants per individual event and one team per group event.
Age categories: Sub-Junior (Class 3–5), Junior (Class 6–8), Senior (Class 9–12).
All performances must be in Sanskrit. Introductions and stage directions may be in English or Hindi.
Winners in each category receive the Bhavani Bharti trophy, certificate and book set.

Schools interested in participating should write to devabhasha@jaipuria.com with the school name, contact person and events of interest. Detailed schedules are shared with registered schools four to six weeks before the competition.
